America Povera

As in much of my work, America Povera addresses the dichotomy of the promise of America and the reality, a response to the often duplicitous promise of the American Dream. The portraits are painted on cardboard, redolent of poverty and homelessness, mounted on a “wallpaper” with patterns of the military-industrial-corporate complex to give social and political context to the figures: self-portraits as First ladies as underpaid and under-appreciated workers.
